In view of withdrawing all lignite-fired plants nationwide by 2025, PPC will help to guide lignite areas towards new sustainable economic activities and provide training and career reorientation for staff to acquire new skills.
To this end, PPC’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer participates in the Steering Committee responsible for preparing and implementing the Just Transition Development Plan (JTDP), for coordinating the activities required for the preparation and implementation of the said plan and for recommending the issues to the Government Committee for the Just Development Transition to the post-lignite era in the Region of Western Macedonia and the Municipality of Megalopolis in the Region of Peloponnese.
In parallel with the withdrawal of the lignite-fired power plants, the mines that feed them will be closed. The equipment of the above production units (mines – power plants) will be dismantled and removed and the affected land will be restored.
